Squirting - What is a squirt blanket and do I need one?

Let the flood gates open

A squirt blanket is a waterproof blanket designed to protect your bed sheets and mattress (or wherever you find yourself having sex) to give you peace of mind while you get hot and heavy.  You literally just lay it down under you while you are having sex and they are luxuriously soft.  I first thought it would be like those old school mattress protectors that feel like you are sleeping on plastic but no no these babies are silky soft and feel like heaven on your skin.  The first time I used mine I instantly thought OMGoddess where have you been all my life.  This would have saved A LOT of time washing and sticky arguments around who is sleeping on the ‘wet patch’ side.   We all know that sex is messy….. and you don’t have time to be up in your head when you are surrendering to waves and waves of toe curling pleasure, right.   I also use mine for free bleeding during my moon time (menstruation) and I recently had a friend over with a newborn and we used it for tummy time and messy baby things, worked a treat.  But back to squirting….

Squirting

For most women or vagina owners squirting is just as mythical as mermaids… do they really exist? What is all the hype? Is it just wee?  You bet your arse its REAL and yes it is worth the hype…..According to OMGyes study of 20,000 sexually active women 41% of women have experienced squirting during arousal and most of those women spent years and years thinking they couldn’t. So I would say there are a lot of women out there you believe they cant but actually can.

‘Squirting’ refers to the gushing release of fluid from the vagina during sex, this fluid is different to lubrication that starts being produced when you are ‘turned on’.  The amount of fluid released when you squirt varies from a few teaspoon to a cup full!!

Most women do not squirt during climax

Most women who experience squirting say it feels different to an orgasm. With only 20% of women saying they squirt during climax, this is completely different to what mainstream porn portrays, surprise surprise (eye roll). The sweet nectar or goddess nectar I like to call it, is released during an act of complete surrender.  Women are just so divinely magickal!  Most women who squirt say it’s a completely unique experience that is both physical and emotional and it’s common for women to shed a tear while or after they squirt. In other words it is a completely transcending experience.

So is it just Wee? Did I just pee myself during sex?!?!?!

It is a highly debated subject whether ‘squirting’ is urine or sexual fluids. Using my own clinical judgement and feminine wisdom I confidently say NO it’s not just urine.  Goddess nectar is made up of similar urine constitutes but some studies show it also has a chemical compound called PSA (prostate specific antigen) which is produced in the skene gland.  The skene gland is located just near the urethra opening and is sometimes incorrectly referred to as the ‘female prostate’.  There has been little research in terms of where and how the squirting fluid is produced and stored (thank you Mr patriarch) but most of my reading leads me to believe it is produced partially by the bladder and partially by female ejaculate glands (skene gland) located near the urethra.  Therefor creating a divinely unique fluid I call Goddess nectar.

 Squirting Goddess nectar

There has been a growing fascination with squirting, especially in the reclamation of female pleasure scene.  What I find super cool is the growing number of squirt schools I come across online.  However, not everyone is embracing of the squirt and for some it can be quite embarrassing and cause a lot of sexual anxiety.  I have had patients who are so embarrassed and think they are weeing themselves (it is important to rule out incontinence, so if you are concerned see you friendly GP).  I even remember hearing a story from a friend who would masturbate over the toilet bowl because they were so worried about the mess… I have other friends who find it very intimate, almost primal and gives them a true sense of surrender and letting go as they squirt.  The ultimate aphrodisiac and turn on.

Squirting and ritual

Squirting can become a powerful ritual that one using to energetically release. During masturbation you can use squirting as a symbolic release of what no longer serves.  You can call upon what no longer serves or think of something particular that you wish to release and in an act of complete surrender you squirt and physically, emotionally and energetically release in the deepest most potent feminine wisdom space.  I have heard woman say they leave their body and return back to themselves, drop back into their bodies once they finish releasing.  Many women say it’s a feeling of tension, and intense pressure turning, leading into a feeling of relief.  I believe it is transcending and a moment of connection to divinity.

So, I say let the flood gates open
